Organizations I have worked or volunteered for include:

Society of St. Andrew - http://www.endhunger.org/
This is a great organization that offers a real, hands-on way to make a difference. I recommend this as a family community activity that lets children see and feel giving in action.

The Prince of Peace - http://www.theprinceofpeace.org/
This is our church home.

YMCA - We Build People - http://ymcaletsplay.org/helping_others.aspx
The YMCA summer day camp was a powerful experience for my son. I was so impressed I volunteered to help raise money for the scholarship fund. If someone from the YMCA calls, tell them yes! This is a great community organization that builds the character of all involved.

Helen Wright Shelter - www.urbanmin.org/services/women.php
On several occasions, we have served meals through our church to these incredible women. Programs of this nature change lives in a lasting and powerful way.

Community Partnerships, Inc. - www.compart.org/index.html
It was this great Wake County non-profit that allowed me to see that everyone has something to offer and that early intervention is critical. Waiting until a child is in 1st or 2nd grade is too late.

NC Cooperative Extension Service - http://www.ces.ncsu.edu/
These are unsung community leaders across the state.

NC Department of Commercehttp://www.nccommerce.com/, www.nccommerce.com/tourism, http://www.ncdca.org/
For six years I had the privilege of working for this department. It was here that I learned of programs like, Main Street, Small Cities CDBG, Heritage Tourism, and 21st Century Communities. It was also while in Commerce that I headed up the Hurricane Floyd Housing Recovery Call Center which in many ways changed my life.

North Carolina Wildlife Federation - http://www.ncwf.org/
While canvassing across North Carolina for the NC Wildlife Federation, I met many wonderful people and fell in love with my husband, William.

NC Smart Start - http://www.smartstart-nc.org/
Without a strong early education system, our children would be woefully unprepared for the challenges put forth by the schools. Without access to high quality child care, thousands of parents would not be able to find and maintain jobs. Smart Start is the very infrastructure for the child care industry, the foundation of educational success and a national leader.
